Gabas Tamkrus: The Dual Heartbeat of Kiblawan's Rock Scene

From the rugged highlands of Kiblawan, Davao del Sur, emerges a band that’s more than just sound it’s a story. Gabas Tamkrus, a rising rock band with a witty name that stands for GAlon ug BASo TAMbay sa KRUSing, carries with it a spirit rooted in humble barkada jam sessions, now turned into a powerful force on the local and national music stage.

Breaking Genres, Building Stories

Their music doesn't stick to one label. Instead, Gabas Tamkrus delivers two clear punches:

Bisrock (Bisaya Rock) – Raw, emotional, and rooted in the everyday lives of the Bisaya. These songs talk about love, heartbreak, friendship, and the familiar ups and downs that many locals can relate to. Written in the dialect, their Bisrock tracks are an ode to real-life narratives.

Nu Metal & Alternative Rock – This side of their music dives into deeper waters highlighting socio-political issues, injustice, and the realities many Filipinos face. With powerful riffs, heavy rhythms, and thought-provoking lyrics, Gabas Tamkrus isn't afraid to speak up through their songs.

“KAMAY”: Their Wake-Up Call in Song

One of their most awaited releases is “KAMAY,” a track that blends Nu Metal and Reggae, channeling the pain and resistance of the Filipino struggle. Tackling themes of oppression, power imbalance, and corruption, the song aims to ignite awareness becoming a voice for those often left unheard.

Two Albums, One Message

Gabas Tamkrus is currently working on two original albums:

  • A Bisrock Album – Celebrating emotion, connection, and the language of the heart, written in Bisaya.

  • A Nu Metal/Alt Rock Album – Shedding light on systemic issues and the Filipino fight for change.

These two projects perfectly reflect the band's soul the heart and the fight. One comforts, the other confronts.

On Stage and On Fire

While original compositions are their core, Gabas Tamkrus also knows how to bring a crowd to life with rock and metal covers that bear their unique twist. Whether at small-town fiestas, community events, or bar gigs, their energy is contagious, and their connection to the audience is real.

The Rise Continues

Gabas Tamkrus is not just a band; it’s a movement of expression from the southern highlands. From tambay sessions to full-stage performances, they’ve proven that local stories whether whispered or screamed deserve to be heard.
