Malacañang confirmed on Today August 26, 2025, the immediate relief of General Nicolas Torre III from his post as Chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP).

Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin announced the development through a memorandum bearing his signature, formally designating Police General Jose Melencio Corpuz Nartatez Jr. as the new head of the 230,000-strong police force.

Prior to his appointment, Nartatez was assigned to the Area Police Command (APC) Western Mindanao, based in Pagadian City, where he oversaw major security and peacekeeping operations.

The Palace, however, has yet to issue a statement on the reason behind Torre’s sudden replacement.

Nartatez is expected to assume command immediately and outline his priorities for the police organization in the coming days.
