DPWH Given Until September 12 to Revise 2026 Budget Proposal

The House of Representatives has suspended deliberations on the proposed 2026 budget of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), granting the agency until September 12 to submit corrections to questionable budget entries flagged by lawmakers.

The decision came following the motion of Mamamayang Liberal party-list Representative Leila de Lima, who stressed the need for the DPWH to rectify inconsistencies before the resumption of budget hearings.

DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon earlier acknowledged these issues during his opening statement, noting errors such as double entries, funding allocations for already completed projects, and fragmented budget releases for ongoing programs.

Dizon said the agency will also review its flood control allocations, emphasizing that resources should be prioritized for flood-prone regions, provinces, and districts. He admitted, however, that past planning for flood control projects lacked coherence, citing Bulacan as an example where projects exist but are poorly designed and ineffective.

The secretary further hinted that adjustments to the 2026 flood control budget may be necessary once the corrections are made.

The DPWH is expected to submit an errata to Congress before the September 12 deadline.
