Republic Act 12295 Establishes Zamboanga del Sur State University

ZAMBOANGA DEL SUR — Republic Act No. 12295 has lapsed into law, converting the Josefina H. Cerilles State College (JHCSC) into the newly established Zamboanga del Sur State University (ZDSSU).

The creation of ZDSSU marks a significant step toward expanding access to quality higher education in the province. As a state university, it will be empowered to broaden its academic offerings, strengthen research programs, and foster innovation across various disciplines.

Lawmakers and education stakeholders believe that the establishment of ZDSSU will not only benefit students through enhanced academic opportunities but will also support socio-economic development in the region by producing highly skilled graduates and advancing research initiatives.

Local leaders welcomed the development, describing it as a milestone for Zamboanga del Sur and a long-awaited boost to the province’s education sector.
