PhilHealth Launches special aid policy for Cebu Earthquake victims

The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) has introduced a temporary Z Benefit policy covering orthopedic implants to assist victims of the magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck Northern Cebu on September 30.

Following President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive, the measure ensures zero co-payment for patients needing implants and allows PhilHealth-accredited doctors to perform surgeries even outside contracted facilities.

The policy, effective until the State of Calamity is lifted, also removes the 24-hour confinement rule, extends claims filing to 120 days, and includes retroactive coverage for patients admitted within 60 days before the quake.

PhilHealth CEO Dr. Edwin Mercado said the move aims to deliver swift medical assistance and ease the financial burden on affected residents.
